Explore Greater Sudbury

Fun things to do in and around Sudbury, Ontario.

I believe in this city. If you're moving here, thinking about it, or you've lived here for years and want a reason to get out this weekend, here's the list I actually give people — heavy on locally owned favourites.

Arts, theatre & live entertainment

For a city our size, Sudbury punches far above its weight culturally. There's live work on stage most of the year and a genuinely tight creative community behind it.

YES Theatre

Sudbury's homegrown professional theatre company, and one of the best reasons to be proud of this city. Big musicals, bold plays and a summer season under the tent at Bell Park that has become a genuine local tradition. If you've never been, start here.

Sudbury Theatre Centre

Downtown's long-running professional theatre — a great night out that's a short walk from dinner and a drink.

Place des Arts

The downtown hub for Sudbury's Francophone arts community: performances, exhibitions, workshops and a lovely café.

Where to eat & drink

Locally owned kitchens are the heartbeat of this city. These are the kinds of places I'll happily meet a client at for a coffee or a long conversation about a move.

Respect Is Burning

A downtown Sudbury institution — Italian-leaning, fire-driven cooking, an excellent wine list and a room that always feels like something good is happening. Perfect for date night, celebrating an accepted offer, or impressing someone who didn't expect this from Northern Ontario.

Kouzzina

Greek-inspired dining downtown with a lively room and generous plates — a long-standing local favourite.

Tucos Taco Lounge

Beloved vegetarian and vegan tacos and comfort food, with a wall of hot sauce and a devoted following.

Crosscut Distillery

Small-batch Northern Ontario spirits, cocktails and a warm tasting room in the Donovan.

Stack Brewing

Sudbury's own craft brewery — named after the landmark you can see from just about everywhere.

Bay Used Books & local cafés

Downtown's independent shops and coffee counters are worth an afternoon of wandering on their own.

Family days out

If you're moving here with kids, these are the places you'll end up with a membership to.

Science North

The snowflake on Ramsey Lake: hands-on science, an IMAX-style theatre, butterflies, beavers and travelling exhibits. A rainy-day rescue and a genuine destination.

Bell Park & the Ramsey Lake Boardwalk

The city's front porch: swim at the beach, walk the boardwalk, catch an outdoor show, and watch the sunset over the water.

Lake Laurentian Conservation Area

Kilometres of trails, a lookout tower and quiet lakes minutes from downtown.

Outdoors, lakes & trails

There are more than 330 lakes inside Greater Sudbury's boundaries. That's the part that surprises people, and it's the reason so many of us never leave.

Kivi Park

A community-built outdoor park with mountain biking, hiking, and one of the best cross-country ski networks in the province come winter.

Onaping Falls & the A.Y. Jackson Lookout

The waterfall that inspired a Group of Seven painting, about half an hour northwest of the city.

Rainbow Routes & Junction Creek trails

An expanding network of urban trails linking neighbourhoods, lakes and green space.

Lakefront living

Ramsey, Long, Nepahwin, Panache, Whitewater, Fairbank and dozens more — from in-town waterfront to true cottage escapes.

Events & seasons

Something's always on. A few worth planning around:

Up Here Festival

Urban art and music transforming downtown walls and alleys each summer.

Sudbury Wolves & Sudbury Five

OHL hockey and pro basketball downtown at the arena — an easy, affordable night out.

Farmers' markets & winter festivals

Local growers and makers in the warmer months, and a city that leans into winter rather than hiding from it.

Have a favourite I've missed?

I'd genuinely love to hear it — send it my way and I'll add it. Supporting locally owned Sudbury businesses is a big part of why I do this work here.
